Sunday: Mississippi, The PIG and The Pool

On Sunday... Jodi had to work, and Chad had to pack the boys for their trip to Washington, DC. So the kids and I loaded up and headed down to Mississippi.

This was (obviously) Sara's first trip way down South... but I am ashamed to admit that McCaleb had not made the trip to Daddy and Frances' either. To say that they were excited... was an understatement. They like to conquer states... and they talk a lot about who has been where... we are a competetive bunch... so Daddy (Tim) is always quick to point out that he is sure he has won. (One day Daddy and I may have to sit down and compare notes to see who is actually the winner... but that's for another day...)

We set out on the drive - and I have to admit that the drive to Jodi and Chad's house... as well as the back roads to Daddy and Frances' were both very pleasant. We saw a lot of beautiful countryside... lots of farms... and plenty of tractors.

When we arrived, we decided to go to lunch at "The Pig". Good barbeque!!! I kid you not... I planned for each of the kids to get a taste of some good southern BAR-B-QUE... but once they found out that there was Peanut, Butter and Jelly on the menu...it was all over. I really wish now that I had gotten a picture of Ali and McCaleb trying to eat their PBJ's. Picture this: toasted Texas Toast, an inch and a half of peanut butter... slathered with another inch of jelly. It was the messiest sandwich I have ever seen... and they loved it! Rachel had Chicken Fingers and Corn on the Cob... one of her favorites of all times... and Sara had a griled cheese sandwich that was enormous and looked divine. I (of course) had the brisket sandwich... and all I can say is YUM YUM.

After lunch we headed back to the house and got changed to go to the pool! The kids were so excited. So we get there... we begin swimming... and a storm began brewing in the form of lightning and thunder! Since they have an indoor pool, too... we simply changed to the indoor pool. They told us they would open the outside pool again once 30 minutes of no lightning passed. While we were swimming inside - the winds picked up and it became kind of scary outside. Strong winds... lightning... pouring down rain...it was a real storm. The kids never noticed. They had an absolute blast - and were heartbroken to leave.

After the pool, Frances and Kelsey went to go pick up pizzas for us - and I took the kids back to Daddy's, showered them all and got them dressed... just in time for us to eat some dinner. It was the end of a really fun-filled day.

We left to go to Jodi and Chad's... and the kids were truly sad. They don't really "get" the whole concept of distance. They think that Jodi and Chad's in Tennessee is about the same as Jodi and Chad's in Lexington. They also think we can go back to Pop and Nini's every weekend... and asked "Why don't they come over more?" Ahhhh... to be so young and innocent! I am glad that they love their family and love spending time with them. They are good kids...
